Susan Frayne, MD, MPH


Biography

Susan Frayne, M.D., M.P.H. directs VA Palo Alto Health Care System’s HSR Center for Innovation to Implementation (Ci2i) and is Professor at Stanford University School of Medicine’s Division of Primary Care and Population Health, and Director of VA’s Women’s Health Evaluation Initiative (WHEI, which analyzes VA data to inform national program development and policy decisions). From 2010-2026 she was also Director of VA’s Women’s Health Practice-Based Research Network (a national network supporting multi-site women’s health research). She is also former Director of VA Cooperative Study Program’s Women’s Enhanced Recruitment Program (WERP), was former Director of the MOVE TIME interdisciplinary weight management clinic at VA Palo Alto, and was former Associate Director of the Women’s Health Center at VA Palo Alto. She is recipient of the 2017 HSR&D Daniel Deykin Award for Outstanding Mentor.  A practicing general internist, her research examines medical care for women Veterans, with a particular focus on women with post-traumatic stress disorder, the interface between medical and mental health care for Veterans, access to care, and health services utilization. She has a longstanding commitment to mentoring fellows and junior faculty.
