About this Course
This course is part of a research project
designed to translate the results of biomedical and psychosocial research
on the management of alcohol withdrawal into measurable changes in clinical
practice. The original version of this course was developed by applying
instructional design principles to Module S of the VA/DoD Clinical Practice
Guideline for the Management of Substance Use Disorders in the Primary
Care Setting, however, the current version has far more focus on using
the CIWA-Ar. While the content contained in this online course is designed
to be useful for nurses, it has undergone substantial revision in an
effort to make it more usable, interactive, and ultimately more effective.
This course is designed to be completed as part of a research protocol
that includes training about the management of alcohol withdrawal using
the CIWA-Ar. While the course developers do not anticipate any unforeseen
adverse consequences resulting from completion of this course, it is
important for you to follow any informed consent procedures that you
may encounter. If you have any questions about this research project
or your participation in it, please contact the Project Director, Ken
Weingardt, Ph.D.. He can be reached by email: Ken.Weingardt@va.gov,
or by telephone at 650-493-5000, ext 22846.
